The LAB sign was an important contribution from Jessica’s children

If you are a little curious why the Murrells Inlet Fishing Lodge’s sign reads “The LAB Fishing Shack,” it’s because the Perry children named it! (L) Liam, (A) Aden, and (B) Bella decided to use the first letters of their names to christen the Lodge and honor Nixon, a chocolate Labrador retriever and one of Perry’s Bait & Tackle’s favorite four-legged employees. Nixon is a sweet, obedient, fish- and boat-loving boy who loves to greet customers and makes himself available to anyone who wants to play. The fishing lodge was a dream of the children’s beloved mother, Jessica Perry.

Jessica Perry

Jessica Perry is missed by so many of her family and friends.

Sadly, Jessica was a victim of domestic violence, and her life was taken three years ago on September 29, 2017. The entire fishing village of Murrells Inlet mourned her passing, as she had contributed so much to the community. Jessica had an uncanny prowess for fishing, and her willingness to share her skills and knowledge was widely admired. Her parents, Sharon and Craig Doehner, have dedicated their lives to carrying on her memory, but most importantly, they are raising Jessica’s three children. Perry’s Bait & Tackle and now Murrells Inlet Fishing Lodge—owned by Jessica’s children—will undoubtedly perpetuate her vision and love for everything to do with fishing.

Perfect setting

Sharon Doehner said: “One of Jessica’s wishes was to transform the old house behind Perry’s into a place where avid fishermen could visit with their fishing buddies or families. She wanted to create a spot where families could develop fishing traditions and make memories year after year and from generation to generation. Jessica envisioned a type of fishing lodge that had a Key West–Ernest Hemingway type of vibe. Completing the lodge has been key in our healing, and our grandchildren’s. We knew in our hearts that Jessica would have wanted us to see it to completion, and we are so proud of accomplishing it in her honor.”logo for fishing lodger
