Like a big welcome mat, happiness lives here,
A place where memories made I hold so dear.
Sparkling flecks of light shimmer in the morning sun,
Our dock is a calming escape, a place to have fun.

.
Like the tides, there have been highs and lows,
But I choose to remember the highs, I suppose.

Weathered and tired, your moans are heard in a storm,
Could you withstand it, or are you too worn?
Thrashed about in the wicked surge,
Yet you stood strong, and would surely re-emerge!

A perfect rainbow renews our joy.
With a promise that you will be there for this little boy.

There’s so much to learn on the dock; it’s clear,
When it is quiet, there are spitting oysters to hear.
Treasures from the creek for wide-eyed grands,
They learn to hold fish and shells in their little hands.
- Gibbes, Caroline, and Elinor checking crab-it
- Bodie learning about crabbing
- Puffer Fish caught in cast net
- Hermit crab
- Lola loves the dock!
- Baby Walker can’t wait to fish!

You welcome all who come to rest,
Eagles,racoons, no matter the mess!
There are tracks from possums and plenty of poop,
It’s a place to gather for one or a group.

The smell of pluff mud and the rhythm of the tide,
There is no place I would rather be than dockside.
I’m so grateful and blessed for every incredible sunrise,
Living on this creek is my everyday prize.

So thankful!

We collected this trash out of the creek from the high tide in September 2024

Wonderful poetry and pictures of a full life on the dock and around the water. Everybody should have such a place to relax and experience the joys of the outdoors. Imagine the possibilities and it can happen!
Thank you so much for your kind remarks. I have gravitated more to the woods than the water over the years, and just recently found something that I love to do on the water – kayak fishing. I always like challenges, and this has been one that has presented so many complex issues such as navigating the tides, fumbling with bait, and getting hooked up with oyster beds instead of fish! But the most fun for me has been my success thowing the cast net and catching shrimp and bait fish off the dock. It is so much more fun than fishing from a boat. So, now I have the water and the woods! I am blessed!
This is one of my favorites you’ve written! Love the memories the dock and your home have given us! 🥰
Thanks, my sweet daughter! It is so much fun to gather up and soak in the beauty of the water – We look so forward to visits!!!
What a lovely tribute to that special part of your home! To share it with your grandchildren must make your heart sing!
Hi Lisa! Yes, there is a new and wonderful meaning to how much it is appreciated with the addition of grands! There is so much learning and sharing. Still waiting for you to show up with your kayak and teach me how to kayak fish! I am proud that I finally figured out what makes me happy.. it’s being able to catch your own bait and be so close to nature in a kayak as compared to fishing from a boat! I caught several fish, but I mentioned I am a hot mess! I will get my go pro out and show you what I mean!
Well done! I can smell the marsh and pluff mud.
For sure! Water or the woods? I can’t decide because I love them both and I am so thankful and a bit spoiled!
